A review of “Technology in Hindu Mythology by Jyoti Tandukar”

The article is about the articulations that are present in Hindu Mythology done thousands of years ago. If not exactly the same, many of the articulations are similar to the technology we use today. People at the time had no knowledge about how such tools could be created, however the articulation of the fantasy is quite fun to read now that we already possess many things they could only fantasize about. Pushpak Viman aka aeroplane Ravana got his viman from Kuber, the richest man in the mytholog…

Pattie Maes's SixthSense

SixthSense is about creating a new sense(information) in addition to our five senses using technology. Pranav Mistry, a graduate student at MIT, talks about his research project, SixthSense, in which he uses a camera and a project a small projection to use an augmented reality like experience. The camera is for input and the projector is for output. The device is capable of detecting gesture input and user interaction with the projectionn and is able to respond to the interaction. Mo…

Why Entrepreneurship?

The question "why entrepreneurship?" is similar to asking "why science?". I am making this comparision here because I consider both of them doing the same thing, creating hypothesis to the problem, testing testing them and reiterate. Scientists think in terms of nature and natural laws, entrepreneurs think in terms of society, economics, problems and opportunities. entrepreneurs find the inventions and opportunities and combine them to solve problem via new businesses. The r…

Meaningless

Life is meaningless, future is meaningless. What is the reason to live if we will have no trace of existence after few years of our death? Even if we leave a legacy, it will be an image of us. There is no personal gain in it. So why do it in first place? We want to make worlds a better place for future generations. Why do we need children after all? What is the goal? Just to forward the dumb animal race. In the far distant future, even if we conquer the galaxy and the universe, what will we do a…

Why do Integrated Circuits contain gold?

Gold is used in ICs for interfacing to the package. Copper can cause corrosion in the packagins. There are two solutions to avoid this, aluminium plating on copper pads or nickel/gold packaging. Gold plating is somehow found to be cheaper because it eliminates costs associated with the thin film sputter, photo lithography and metal etch. Gold also offers thermal stability for the package. With much advances in technology, Copper interconnects are being used instead. Conventional problems associa…

State Considered Harmful

I recently studied a paper that described how states on computers are a big security issues and proposes a laptop which holds no system at all, requiring all the components of a computer system including disk controllers, network controllers, microprocessor management engines stateless and hence increasing the security of our systems.
